Anthropic released its financial data, revealing a net loss exceeding $80 billion in the first half of this year, compared to a loss of $13 billion in the same period last year. The significant increase in losses was primarily due to the inclusion of a $72 billion accounting charge related to changes in the value of financial instruments issued for financing. During the same period, the company's revenue surged from $1.1 billion in the same period last year to $16.3 billion, driven by the widespread adoption of its programming assistant, Claude Code. Additionally, Anthropic's spending on AI infrastructure nearly quadrupled, reaching nearly $9 billion. The company also stated that it may invest up to $750 billion over the next few years to acquire additional computing capacity. Recently, Anthropic disclosed that its revenue in the third quarter increased by 45% sequentially, reaching $16.8 billion, and it achieved adjusted profitability in the quarter. However, following its Investor Day event, some existing and potential investors are considering lowering their valuation of the company after reviewing the latest financial information. The valuation currently under discussion is approximately $1.5 trillion, significantly lower than the previously expected figure of around $2 trillion. Currently, investors are cautiously evaluating whether the substantial investments made by AI companies in chips and data centers will yield corresponding returns. Anthropic's IPO performance could impact the entire AI market, particularly as its competitor, OpenAI, may go public next year. The success or failure of Anthropic's IPO is seen as a key factor determining the near-term prospects of the AI market.
