On October 20, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning addressed the U.S. government's directive for federal agencies to halt the use of Chinese artificial intelligence products, including DeepSeek, during a routine press conference. Mao Ning emphasized that China has consistently opposed the indiscriminate application of national security concepts and the politicization of technological, economic, and trade matters, and is committed to firmly upholding the lawful rights and interests of Chinese companies. Earlier, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security had issued an order mandating federal civilian agencies to cease procuring DeepSeek products and to remove related products and services from their existing information systems.
