Xiaohongshu has circulated a memo company-wide, revealing plans to merge its primary internal AI division, Dots, with the core infrastructure unit. This move aims to foster the collaborative growth of models, infrastructure, and product requirements. Xiaohongshu underscores that the seamless integration of models and applications holds greater significance than merely chasing after model prowess or computational might, with products and users continuing to be its central concern.
Over the last two years, Xiaohongshu has consistently ramped up its investment in the AI sphere. In 2024, the AI Q&A assistant introduced within the app by Xiaohongshu attracted over 100 million monthly active users, significantly fueling search activity. Early in 2025, Xiaohongshu set up the Humanistic Intelligence Lab (hi lab) and introduced the role of Humanistic Trainer to refine AI's human-like expression and ensure its values are in sync with human expectations. In April 2026, the Dots team was assembled and initially constructed an AI technology framework. Its open-source dots3 model, geared towards real-world, long-term tasks, clinched a perfect gold medal with official endorsement from the IMO (International Mathematical Olympiad).
Following this restructuring, Xiaohongshu is set to construct a more comprehensive and streamlined AI technology framework, bolstering resource collaboration and innovation efficiency. Concurrently, the hi lab will concentrate on long-term, cutting-edge technological exploration, striving to forge a technology organization that can deliver both product worth and technical innovation.
