On October 15th, Charu Chanana, the Chief Investment Strategist at Saxo Bank, highlighted that the ongoing rally in US stocks is excessively focused on a select few tech behemoths, a situation that is heightening risks for the broader market. Should AI-related stocks underperform, it could not only prompt a drop in stock indices and diminish portfolio risk exposure but also lead to a reduction in AI infrastructure investments. Nevertheless, Chanana is of the opinion that a correction within the AI sector does not automatically spell a full-fledged bear market for the entire stock market. As long as corporate earnings stay robust and economic growth remains steady, investors might redirect their capital towards sectors like healthcare, certain financial stocks, and industrial stocks, especially those boasting more appealing valuations. She underscored that the pivotal factor is whether the AI-driven market correction sparks risk contagion to other sectors or instigates capital rotation across diverse industries. Chanana explained that if the variety of stocks experiencing gains in the market broadens when tech stocks falter, it signals that capital is being reallocated. Conversely, if selling pressure pervades across industries, it may point to a general uptick in risk aversion within the market.
