In the trade secret infringement lawsuit initiated by Apple against OpenAI in July, a judge has recently ruled that Apple is entitled to promptly obtain interview materials concerning former Apple employees who are now part of OpenAI's Consumer Hardware and Robotics divisions. OpenAI is mandated to provide these documents within a designated timeframe. Additionally, the judge has granted Apple's application to review private chat records on the LINE messaging platform from individuals pertinent to the case and has authorized the deposition of three OpenAI-related individuals who were formerly employed by Apple outside of court. Nevertheless, the judge rejected some of Apple's requests for expedited discovery that were deemed overly broad, such as gaining access to OpenAI's R&D materials in certain fields. The judge suggested that Apple could refine its request and resubmit it with a more focused scope.
