On October 14, Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA, disclosed in Paris on Tuesday that the company is poised to announce a substantial new investment of $2 billion in Europe within the coming week. This latest commitment, when added to the $8 billion already invested in Europe over the past year, underscores NVIDIA's commitment to further broadening its business footprint across the continent. Huang's European tour also encompasses visits to London and Berlin. Moreover, he unveiled financial backing for four promising French startups: Doctolib, a healthcare technology company; Genesis AI, a robotics firm; Pigment, a business software company; and Entalpic, which leverages artificial intelligence for chemical and materials research.
Addressing prevalent concerns in European society regarding the safety risks associated with artificial intelligence and the energy consumption of data centers, Huang expressed his opposition to slowing down AI development. He contended that artificial intelligence can safely propel economic growth. Huang highlighted that open-source models offer a viable pathway for Europe to bridge the AI technology gap with the United States, as these models can be tailored to suit diverse linguistic and technological requirements. Huang urged Europe to expedite its involvement in the artificial intelligence race.
