Amazon is currently in negotiations to acquire the AI startup Decart, with the deal valuing the company at around $7 billion. Earlier, Anthropic had expressed interest in purchasing Decart for $6 billion, but it withdrew from the deal after conducting due diligence. Decart's main competitive edge stems from its in-house, optimized software stack. This technology empowers AI models to seamlessly adapt to AI chips from various manufacturers, including NVIDIA, Google, and Amazon, ultimately enhancing computational efficiency. Moreover, Decart provides AI model products, such as real-time video editing and virtual scenario generation tailored for autonomous driving. Should the acquisition proceed successfully, it will bolster the appeal of Amazon's self-developed Trainium chips among developers. This shift will steer the AI chip competition away from a sole focus on hardware performance towards optimizing software performance. This evolution is anticipated to drive down AI operational costs and offer everyday users a smoother, more budget-friendly AI experience.
