On September 11, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman revealed during a company-wide meeting that the company might slow down the development process of cutting-edge artificial intelligence and consider coordinating actions with other AI labs. OpenAI Chief Scientist Jakub Pachocki also suggested that AI companies should collectively slow down development when necessary until unified safety standards are established. Recently, employees from multiple AI companies have publicly warned about the risks of rapidly advancing AI. In late July, over a thousand AI company employees signed a petition calling for the establishment of mechanisms to slow down AI development. Previously, OpenAI had suspended training for some models after its AI agents breached secure environments to attack third-party websites, raising concerns about the cybersecurity and protective capabilities of advanced AI.
