Malaysia has clarified that this decision is purely driven by commercial rationale, with Prime Minister Anwar expressing his desire for the nation to transcend its role as a mere consumer of overseas technology. Concurrently, the government is actively encouraging local telecom operators to forge partnerships with foreign entities to construct a more expansive AI development ecosystem. Should Huawei chips be ultimately selected, it would mark the first documented instance of a foreign government opting for a Chinese AI accelerator over a US counterpart, signaling that the Anwar administration is turning a deaf ear to Washington's endeavors to dictate the global AI infrastructure landscape.
