U.S. enterprise customers are scaling back their use of Anthropic's top-tier model, Fable 5, and turning to more cost-efficient alternatives instead. Since the introduction of Opus 5, enterprise expenditures on it have outstripped those on Fable 5. Even though Fable 5 was re-released following intervention from the U.S. government, its demand and uptake have not met anticipated levels. At the same time, Anthropic has witnessed substantial year-on-year revenue growth, reporting an adjusted operating profit for the first time in Q2, and is now gearing up for an IPO with a valuation that could surpass $2 trillion. The prevailing market trend is moving away from a singular focus on the most powerful models, toward a more balanced approach that weighs model capabilities, pricing, and actual return on investment (ROI). OpenAI, too, has seen a revenue uptick with the launch of GPT-5.6.
