In May of this year, a controversy arose when Google Chrome automatically downloaded a local AI model, roughly 4GB in size. Recently, Google updated its documentation, specifying that to download this model, devices must have approximately 20GB of available disk space as a prerequisite. Despite this, the actual space the model occupies is less than that figure. Moreover, the download process mandates an unlimited data network and hardware performance that meets specific standards. Users, however, have the option to disable this feature in their settings. On another front, Microsoft Edge has also increased the minimum storage space requirement for local AI models to 20GB. Additionally, the GPU memory must be at least 5.5GB, along with meeting other system and network requirements. Notably, when the available space falls below 10GB, Edge will automatically delete the model to free up space.
