As both OpenAI's ChatGPT and gaming company Roblox have over 45 million monthly active users in the EU region, these two U.S. tech companies are expected to face stricter content regulation scrutiny from the EU. According to sources familiar with the matter, EU administrative bodies will officially designate them as 'Very Large Online Platforms' (VLOPs) under the Digital Services Act (DSA) as early as August. Companies designated as VLOPs are required to submit transparency reports detailing their risk mitigation plans and pay annual fees to the European Commission. Companies that violate the DSA may face fines of up to 6% of their global annual sales.
