OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said on Wednesday that he has reviewed the proposed framework for implementing President Trump's executive order on artificial intelligence and will meet with White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles during his visit to Washington this week. Since Trump signed a high-profile AI executive order in June, the current administration has taken a more active role in AI regulation. The order requires AI companies to voluntarily submit their models to the government for capability assessment before full-scale release, but provides few specifics. Trump gave federal agencies 60 days to develop an evaluation framework, and Altman's visit to Washington comes as the August 1 deadline approaches. He is not the only tech executive meeting with lawmakers this week; NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang is also on Capitol Hill to discuss open models and U.S. leadership in AI.
