The key transparency requirements outlined in the EU’s Artificial Intelligence Act are set to officially come into effect on August 2, 2026. Under these requirements, all companies operating within the EU are mandated to clearly label any content that has been generated or substantially altered by artificial intelligence. This includes text responses from chatbots, as well as AI-created images, audio, and video. The objective of this initiative is to empower the public to readily discern the authenticity of audiovisual content and to curb the dissemination of misinformation. For generative AI systems that are already available in the market prior to August 2, 2026, companies will be given a four-month grace period to ensure compliance by December 2, 2026. Companies found to be in violation of these regulations will be subject to fines of up to 6% of their global annual revenue or €35 million, whichever amount is greater.
