On July 29, the Bank of England reportedly launched an evaluation of the exposure that London-based investment banks have to Asian stocks, with the objective of mitigating concentration risks linked to a select group of artificial intelligence (AI)-related companies. According to reports, regulators are examining how these banks facilitate financing for Asian investments on behalf of institutional clients, such as hedge funds, through their operations in the UK.

Spurred by the AI boom, a handful of Asian companies—including SK Hynix and TSMC—have drawn substantial capital from hedge funds. For certain banks, the revenue generated from such financing activities in the Asian market now exceeds that from their European operations.
