This week, 26 Meta employees filed a lawsuit accusing the company of using an artificial intelligence system to select layoff targets, unfairly impacting employees on medical, parental, or family care leave. The complaint points out that the scoring system has design flaws, preventing employees on protected leave or those with reduced work output due to physical disabilities from accumulating sufficient scores. Additionally, Meta did not account for employees' statutory leave when calculating scores, nor did it suspend the automated system for individual manual reviews as required by law.
