Sunrun, the largest supplier of residential photovoltaic and energy storage equipment in the United States, is launching a pilot project for 'distributed AI data centers.' Participating users may receive hundreds of dollars in compensation each month by selling computing power. With over 1 million rooftop photovoltaic system users, Sunrun plans to leverage the demand for computing power in the AI industry to collaborate with customers in deploying nodes in their homes, enabling households to function as 'micro data centers' and thereby addressing the projected 40% increase in energy demand in the United States over the next decade.
