Four states in the United States have collectively leveled accusations against Meta, alleging that the company employs addictive algorithms to entice minors and conceals the detrimental effects on adolescents (here, "teenager" is replaced with "adolescents" for a more precise and natural English expression) mental well-being. They are seeking a staggering $1.4 trillion in damages. Already, a total of 29 states across the nation have initiated legal proceedings against Meta. Concurrently, the European Commission has released a preliminary report in accordance with the Digital Services Act, demanding that Meta overhaul addictive features like 'autoplay' and 'infinite scroll.' Failure to comply could result in a fine of up to 6% of Meta's global annual revenue. Meta, however, refutes these allegations and asserts that it will persist in defending its position.
