On July 11th, reports surfaced indicating that Tencent is engaged in discussions to become the principal shareholder of Manus, a company specializing in general-purpose AI Agents. A consortium of Chinese investors, spearheaded by Tencent, is planning to buy back all of Manus' shares from Meta, with the company valued at around US$2 billion. When approached by journalists for comment, Tencent has not issued a response thus far. However, another insider disclosed that following the transaction, Tencent intends to retain its status as a minority shareholder and will not seek a controlling interest. It's worth noting that Meta's prior attempt to acquire Manus was met with prohibition.
