According to sources familiar with the matter who spoke to The Information, Tencent Holdings has invested in a new AI lab founded by Lin Junyang, the former head of Alibaba's Tongyi Qianwen large language model. The lab's initial funding round totaled hundreds of millions of dollars, with a post-money valuation of approximately $2 billion. The round was led by Gaorong Capital and Sequoia China, each contributing $100 million, while Tencent invested $20 million. With the funding round recently closed, Lin Junyang's team has already begun preparations for the next round of fundraising.
