Anthropic has made an announcement stating that, commencing on July 8, 2026, it will introduce identity verification procedures for all users of Claude, encompassing free, Pro, and Max tiers. Under these new measures, users will be obligated to submit a photo ID issued by the government and capture a live selfie for the purpose of facial matching. This entire process will be managed by the third-party service provider, Persona. The driving force behind this initiative is the imperative to revamp privacy policies. Anthropic has formally declared that the data collected through this verification process will not be utilized for training its models.
