Recently, a group of attorneys general from various U.S. states has initiated a wide-ranging joint investigation into the artificial intelligence firm OpenAI. On June 12 (local time), OpenAI was served with a subpoena by the New York State Attorney General's Office, compelling the company to provide documents pertaining to several areas, including its advertising strategies, user engagement tactics, consumer data handling, policies for protecting minors, and the advancement of deep learning models. Earlier, Florida had initiated legal action against OpenAI, accusing its ChatGPT of making deceptive safety assertions. In response, an OpenAI spokesperson said that they would address these issues with the utmost seriousness and engage in constructive collaboration with the attorneys general's offices across different states.
