Sir Demis Hassabis, the founder of Google DeepMind, is an early investor in Anthropic. His undisclosed shareholdings highlight his growing influence in the artificial intelligence industry. Hassabis invested in Anthropic as an angel investor, and Google has also poured billions of dollars into it through cloud services and AI collaboration projects, valuing Anthropic at up to $900 billion. Since 2021, researchers who left DeepMind have founded more than ten AI startups, raising at least $14 billion in total, including companies such as the UK's Heterogeneous Labs and Nanyan Intelligence. After selling the AI lab to Google in 2014, Hassabis has continued to serve as an angel investor for companies founded by his former colleagues. Meanwhile, Google has been steadily increasing its investment in the artificial intelligence business, with several DeepMind executives transitioning to key positions within Google.
