On May 13, during the opening ceremony of Create 2026 Baidu AI Developer Conference, Baidu's founder, Li Yanhong, suggested that the 'Number of Daily Active Agents' (DAA) could serve as a pivotal metric in the AI era, mirroring the significance of 'Daily Active Users' (DAU) in the mobile internet age. Li Yanhong pointed out that while the prevalent industry metric of Token consumption offers some insights, Tokens essentially represent costs rather than gains, focusing more on input than output. He highlighted that as we transition into the agent era, the vitality of platforms and ecosystems should be assessed more accurately through the DAA metric—that is, by examining how many agents are actively engaged in tasks for humans and producing tangible results. This perspective provides a more comprehensive reflection of value and essence, surpassing the limited view of merely tracking Token consumption.
