A collective of more than 560 Google employees has co-signed a letter directed at CEO Sundar Pichai, urging him to reject the U.S. government's request to utilize Google's artificial intelligence (AI) technology in confidential military endeavors. The letter underscores their aspiration for AI to serve as a boon to humanity, rather than being exploited for inhumane or detrimental applications, including lethal autonomous weapons and extensive surveillance programs. This coordinated effort was spearheaded by personnel from Google's AI research division, DeepMind. Notably, two-fifths of the signatories hail from the AI sector, with a comparable proportion representing the cloud services division. The remaining signatories are distributed across various teams within Alphabet, Google's parent company, and include the participation of over 18 senior staff members.
