The National Data Administration has officially defined the Chinese translation for the AI-related term "Token" as "Ci Yuan" (literal meaning: word element), a term that has rapidly gained traction in online discussions. In light of this, the Ministry of State Security has released a notification to caution the public about the potential security threats linked to "Ci Yuan". As of March this year, there has been a notable spike in the daily utilization of tokens across China. Tokens carry inherent risks, including data breaches, counterfeiting, tampering, fraudulent activities, and other perils. Practices such as "stockpiling tokens for prosperity" not only pose a threat to individual interests but also jeopardize national economic stability and data security. The Ministry of State Security urges the public to grasp the true essence of tokens, employ them in a regulated and standardized manner, and strictly adhere to relevant laws and regulations.
