Chinese AI company DeepSeek has unveiled that its latest large-scale model, V4, will be developed and trained solely on a computing power cluster built with domestically produced chips, completely phasing out reliance on NVIDIA chips. This new model is optimized to run on homegrown chips like Huawei’s Ascend 950PR, achieving performance on par with leading international models. DeepSeek plans to roll out V4 in full by the second quarter of 2026.

In anticipation of the V4 launch, major tech firms such as Alibaba, ByteDance, and Tencent have already placed orders for hundreds of thousands of chips from Huawei. This development signifies the emergence of a fully self-contained domestic AI ecosystem in China, ensuring complete autonomy and control across the entire supply chain—from data and algorithms to computing hardware. The move is widely seen as a major milestone for China’s technological security and industrial competitiveness on the global stage.
