Amazon is making significant strides in its 'Project Kobe' endeavor, which is centered around establishing sizable automated retail stores. This is achieved through the seamless integration of robotics and artificial intelligence, positioning it in direct competition with Walmart's 'Supercenter' concept. These proposed stores will span an impressive area of roughly 225,500 square feet and boast a 'front-of-house, back-of-house' layout. Behind the scenes, they will be equipped with a robotic warehousing system and an 'Orbital' system to bolster a wide array of services. It is anticipated that the product assortment will expand to encompass 250,000 items, nearly twice the selection available at Walmart. Moreover, Amazon has crafted a generative AI system to aid store managers in making precise product choices. The inaugural batch of stores is slated to open its doors in 2027.
