The term "token," which is frequently discussed in the AI industry, has become a focal point of debate among top tech executives. At the GTC 2026 conference, NVIDIA CEO Huang Renxun put forward a bold idea: integrating tokens into real-world applications, such as incorporating them into engineers' salary packages to boost productivity. Meanwhile, OpenAI CEO Altman envisioned a future scenario where a "universal basic computing power" might emerge, with AI-generated "intelligence" serving as a fundamental resource and business models pivoting to token sales. Huang Renxun also made a vivid analogy, likening large-scale data centers to "token factories." However, Microsoft CEO Nadella adopted a more cautious approach, stressing that AI must deliver tangible benefits. In practice, the cost of using tokens for businesses is steadily climbing. For instance, the company founded by venture capitalist Chamath Palihapitiya has witnessed its related expenses surge more than threefold.
