In March 2026, Doubao, a platform under ByteDance, embarked on a grayscale beta test for its AI-driven e-commerce capabilities, centering on the innovative concept of "one-sentence shopping." This feature allows users to simply voice their shopping needs, prompting Doubao to swiftly match products, offer tailored shopping recommendations, and provide official purchase links. The platform supports seamless in-app ordering and payment processes. Initially, the test will encompass categories that cater to high-frequency consumption, such as digital products and daily necessities.

Prior to this, major industry players including Alibaba, JD.com, Meituan, and Pinduoduo have also intensified their foray into AI-powered shopping. They have enhanced their search recommendation systems, intelligent customer service, and supply chain forecasting capabilities using advanced large models, all in a bid to capture the entry-level traffic in the burgeoning "AI + e-commerce" sector. However, the current landscape of AI shopping is not without its challenges. Issues such as information inaccuracies (often referred to as "hallucinations" in AI terminology), a lack of user trust, and data overload persist. Addressing these hurdles will necessitate a more profound technological foundation and seamless integration within the broader e-commerce ecosystem.
