Demis Hassabis, CEO of Google DeepMind, stated that true Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) is gradually approaching but still falls short. AGI refers to machine intelligence capable of reasoning and solving new problems like humans. Hassabis believes that current AGI systems have not yet reached the level of human intelligence, primarily lacking in three areas: first, a deficiency in 'continuous learning' capabilities; second, a lack of long-term planning abilities; and third, inconsistent performance. Hassabis once predicted that true AGI would be achieved within five to ten years. DeepMind, which he co-founded and was later acquired by Google, has now become the core research and development force behind Google's Gemini project. In 2024, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his contributions to the field of protein structure prediction research.
