Amazon's investment in artificial intelligence startup Anthropic has yielded significant paper returns. Amazon has invested US$8 billion in Anthropic, and the current value of its stake has soared to US$60.6 billion, marking a sevenfold increase in investment value. The two sides are cooperating closely, with Anthropic committing to purchasing 1 million Amazon Trainium chips. Anthropic's last funding round was in September 2025, and it is currently in talks for a new round of financing, with its valuation expected to reach US$350 billion. Amazon's convertible bonds will be converted into preferred shares in subsequent financing rounds, and some of the investment gains have already been reflected in its financial statements. It is expected that “other income” will increase by an additional US$15 billion in the first quarter. However, Amazon stated that the above valuation is based on 'significant judgment,' and Anthropic plans to go public this year.
