In a bid to safeguard minors, the gaming platform Roblox is set to implement a requirement for users to verify their age through facial recognition technology when engaging in chats with fellow players. This move aims to curb interactions between children and adults. By the end of 2025, the platform will mandate that all users participating in communication undergo AI-powered age scans. This process will incorporate a blend of artificial intelligence-driven facial analysis, identity verification mechanisms, and parental consent protocols. Prior to this, the platform had already rolled out a series of safety measures. These included banning voice chat for users under the age of 13 and implementing thorough monitoring of text chats. At present, Roblox is embroiled in legal battles in the United States, with some state attorneys general and private plaintiffs filing lawsuits against it over child safety concerns.
