The latest issue of Nature features research indicating that scientists have successfully compiled a database comprising over 10,000 human images. This database is designed to assess and rectify biases present in AI models operating within the visual realm. Developed by Sony AI, the database is dubbed the "Fair Human-Centric Image Benchmark" (FHIBE). The acquisition of this dataset adhered strictly to ethical standards, ensuring that it was based on the explicit consent of the individuals involved. FHIBE facilitates a meticulous evaluation of computer vision tasks that are centered around humans, enabling the identification and subsequent correction of biases and stereotypes. The research team posits that this represents a pivotal stride towards the development of AI systems that are more reliable and trustworthy.
