On November 7, as reported by the UK's Financial Times, the European Commission has put forward a proposal to temporarily halt the implementation of certain key sections of its groundbreaking AI legislation. This move comes amidst mounting pressure from both major tech firms and the U.S. administration. The EU is set to ease some digital regulations as part of its decision on the 'Streamlining Package' scheduled for November 19. The AI Act is widely recognized as the most stringent regulatory framework globally for AI technology development, placing the EU under significant strain from the U.S. government, leading tech corporations, and European entities. A high-ranking EU official disclosed that ongoing discussions have been taking place between the EU and the Trump administration concerning modifications to the AI Act and other digital policies. According to the draft, the EU is contemplating offering a one-year 'grace period' to companies that breach the most stringent AI usage guidelines. Additionally, it suggests delaying the imposition of penalties for non-compliance with the new AI transparency requirements until August 2027.
