Nvidia's CEO, Jensen Huang, has expressed the view that China is set to surpass the U.S. in the race for AI dominance, attributing this potential outcome to China's lower energy costs and more relaxed regulatory environment. Previously, under the Trump administration, a ban was imposed on Nvidia, preventing it from selling its most cutting-edge AI chips to China. Speaking at the Future of AI Summit, Huang criticized Western nations, particularly the U.S. and the U.K., for succumbing to 'cynicism.' He highlighted that the new AI regulations being implemented across various U.S. states could lead to a fragmented landscape with '50 different sets of rules.' In contrast, Chinese local governments are actively supporting the tech sector by providing electricity subsidies for data centers. This move significantly reduces the operational costs for local tech firms developing alternatives to Nvidia's AI chips. Huang has also previously cautioned that the latest AI models from the U.S. do not hold a substantial advantage over those from China and has urged for a relaxation of export controls. However, Trump has shown resistance to allowing other nations access to Nvidia's most advanced chip technology.
