Google has declared that, commencing with Chrome version 154, slated for release in October 2026, the 'Always Use Secure Connections' functionality will be turned on by default. When users attempt to access public websites that lack HTTPS encryption, the browser will initially present a warning dialog. This move is aimed at bolstering network security and thwarting 'man-in-the-middle attacks'. The warning system is designed to be intelligent, activating only under specific conditions. Moreover, users will have the flexibility to tailor the extent of these warnings. Considering the widespread adoption of HTTPS, regular users are unlikely to encounter frequent alerts once this feature is implemented. In April 2026, Chrome version 147 will pioneer the activation of this feature for users who have opted for the enhanced safe browsing mode. Google advises website developers and IT administrators to proactively enable this setting at the earliest opportunity.
