China's inaugural future industrial cluster zone dedicated to brain-computer interfaces has found its home in Hongqiao, Shanghai, marking a collaborative endeavor among the city government, district authorities, and the business district to propel its development forward. Brain-computer interfaces have been earmarked as one of the "six future industries" poised for significant growth. The cluster zone has charted out three key developmental trajectories: firstly, to forge an industrial cluster zone; secondly, to foster a technological innovation hub; and thirdly, to bolster policy support frameworks. In January of this year, Shanghai rolled out the "Shanghai Action Plan for Nurturing the Future Brain-Computer Interface Industry (2025-2030)," which explicitly lays out the vision that by 2027, certain brain-computer interface products will attain clinical application and an innovative ecosystem will be firmly established. By 2030, these products are projected to be extensively utilized in clinical environments, aiding Shanghai in its quest to become a global innovation epicenter for brain-computer interfaces and offering patients a broader array of rehabilitation and treatment avenues.
