On Tuesday, the U.S.-based celebrity video platform Cameo initiated legal proceedings against OpenAI in a California federal court, claiming trademark infringement due to the introduction of a new "Cameo" feature within OpenAI's "Sora" video-generating application. In its formal complaint, Cameo articulated that this particular feature, which empowers users to craft and disseminate virtual avatars through the Sora platform, has the potential to create confusion among consumers and subsequently diminish the value of its brand. In response, a representative from OpenAI mentioned that the company is currently in the process of scrutinizing the complaint but firmly disputes any assertion that it has exclusive rights to the term "Cameo".
