Google's research team, working in tandem with scholars from the University of California, Santa Cruz, has unveiled a cutting-edge artificial intelligence model named DeepSomatic. This model is specifically engineered to pinpoint genetic mutations within cancer cells. During a joint research effort with a children's medical institution, DeepSomatic successfully pinpointed 10 distinct types of mutations in pediatric leukemia cells that had eluded detection by other methods. The model utilizes a streamlined variant caller, customized for cancer genomes and compatible with diverse read types. It represents an advancement of the DeepVariant technology, adept at identifying single nucleotide variations, as well as small insertions and deletions. Furthermore, it accommodates multiple workflows and is compatible with formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded models.
