Microsoft has recently declared the removal of upgrade restrictions imposed on a group of users. These users were previously unable to upgrade to Windows 11 24H2 because of issues related to Dirac Audio technology. These restrictions had been in effect since December 2024, spanning a period of 9 months.
Dirac Audio is a firm specializing in audio optimization technology, akin to renowned brands like Dolby and DTS. Its technology is extensively utilized in Bluetooth audio devices, including speakers and headphones. In December 2024, Microsoft identified that devices incorporating Dirac Audio technology encountered compatibility problems following an upgrade to Windows 11 24H2, leading to malfunctions. Consequently, Microsoft introduced protective measures to restrict the upgrade.
Recently, Microsoft rolled out new drivers through Windows Update to tackle this issue. The company advises users to install the latest security update, KB5065431, which encompasses a solution for the Dirac Audio problem. As of September 11, 2025, the affected devices are no longer under the protective restrictions, enabling users to proceed with the installation of Windows 11 24H2 via the Windows Update channel.
