During a recent press conference, the China Meteorological Administration revealed that the pilot project for AI-based weather forecasting models, which was initiated in June 2024, has already reached significant interim milestones. By adopting a holistic approach that integrates the entire workflow—from "model development to data utilization, product generation, and performance evaluation"—the initiative is driving the innovative fusion of advanced forecasting models with routine meteorological operations. This collaborative effort has drawn participation from 35 institutions. As of now, 14 models have undergone iterative improvements and rigorous testing during the flood season. Notably, models like Fuxi and Puyun have distinguished themselves with exceptional performance.
