The National Development and Reform Commission, in collaboration with the National Energy Administration, has unveiled the Implementation Guidelines for Fostering High-Quality Growth in “Artificial Intelligence Plus Energy”. These guidelines outline a strategic vision to initially forge an integrated innovation framework between energy and artificial intelligence by 2027, with the ambitious goal of positioning China at the forefront of global AI technology and application development within the energy sector by 2030.
The guidelines underscore the urgency of expediting the integration of AI into energy application scenarios, spanning a diverse array of domains including power grids, emerging新能源 (new energy, here it retains the Chinese pinyin with its English translation provided for context) business models, renewable energy sources, hydropower, thermal power, nuclear energy, coal, and the oil and gas industry.
Simultaneously, there is a call to bolster the supply of pivotal technologies. This entails reinforcing data infrastructure, augmenting computational power support, and refining the foundational capabilities of AI models.
Furthermore, the guidelines propose a suite of safeguard measures, encompassing the reinforcement of organizational execution, the promotion of collaborative innovation, the enhancement of standardization and regulatory frameworks, the execution of pilot demonstration projects, the amplification of support mechanisms, and the improvement of the talent development ecosystem.
