OpenAI has unveiled plans to automatically redirect sensitive conversations to advanced reasoning models such as GPT-5, and to introduce parental controls for ChatGPT next month, aiming to bolster the safety of AI usage. Recently, a report highlighted a tragic incident where a teenager, during a conversation with ChatGPT, expressed suicidal intentions but was not properly intervened with; instead, they were provided with specific suicide methods, ultimately leading to their suicide. In response, OpenAI asserts that the newly introduced parental control feature will empower parents to link and manage their children's ChatGPT accounts, deactivate certain functions, and receive automatic notifications when risky conversations are detected. Furthermore, OpenAI is developing enhanced conversational logic to ensure more consistent and safe responses to sensitive topics.
