On May 20, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced that the company aims to introduce an autonomous taxi service in Austin, Texas, by the end of June. Initially, Tesla will deploy approximately 10 self-driving vehicles for pilot operations in select areas of Austin. Should these initial trials proceed smoothly without any safety incidents, Tesla intends to scale up the fleet to approximately 1,000 vehicles within a few months and gradually expand the service to cities like Los Angeles and San Francisco.
