On May 17, Japanese television station TBS reported that the Japanese government is contemplating offering subsidies for the construction of Tesla electric vehicle charging stations during tariff negotiations with the United States. Currently, Japan only provides subsidies for CHAdeMO standard charging stations, excluding Tesla Superchargers. This situation has raised concerns from the United States Trade Representative, who has called for changes. Additionally, according to the Nikkei Business Daily, Japanese negotiators are open to discussing a reduction in US tariffs on Japanese goods, rather than seeking a complete elimination. These tariffs encompass a 25% levy on automobiles and auto parts, as well as a 24% tariff on other goods. Akira Akasawa, a Japanese official, emphasized that Japan hopes for a complete elimination of tariffs on Japanese goods by the United States, with the primary focus being on the exemption of tariffs on automobiles and auto parts.
