Tesla, emblematic of the vision-based approach, has streamlined its systems by eliminating all non-camera sensors, inspiring a cohort of followers to emulate this minimalist design. Conversely, companies such as Huawei and Li Auto uphold a comprehensive fusion perception strategy anchored around LiDAR technology. Each approach has its distinctive merits. The vision-based solution boasts cost-effectiveness and a natural alignment with human driving habits, yet it remains vulnerable to variations in lighting conditions. On the other hand, the LiDAR-centric approach offers extended detection ranges and heightened precision, albeit at a substantial cost and requiring significant processing capabilities from the onboard computer.
