John Murphy, an analyst at Bank of America, cautioned that the Trump administration's broad imposition of tariffs on the automotive sector could trigger a significant drop in demand for millions of vehicles and escalate the risk of production halts. In a report released on Wednesday, he stated: "Price hikes will invariably curb demand, particularly in an environment where buyers' purchasing power is already under strain." Murphy forecasts that if manufacturers fully transfer the tariff costs to consumers, auto demand could plummet by approximately 20%, equating to a loss of 3.2 million vehicles.
