On March 11, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. announced that its current CEO, Makoto Uchida, will resign at the end of March, to be succeeded by Chief Planning Officer Ivan Espinosa, effective April 1. This strategic move by Nissan aims to propel the company towards achieving its short- and medium-term objectives while paving the way for long-term growth.
Makoto Uchida joined Nissan in 2003 and has held various senior positions, including Corporate Vice President, Head of Purchasing, and Global Vice President of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance. He was appointed as President and CEO of Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. in October 2019. In light of the company's recent underperformance and the failed merger negotiations with Honda Motor Co., Ltd., Nissan believes that Uchida bears managerial responsibility and has thus decided to restructure its leadership team.
