On October 22, Guo Shougang, Director of the First Department of Equipment Industry at the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), remarked at the 2026 World Intelligent Connected Vehicles Conference that driver assistance systems worldwide have witnessed widespread adoption, and autonomous driving technology is poised to enter the phase of commercial deployment. He emphasized that intelligent connected vehicles (ICVs) are revolutionizing the industry ecosystem, transforming automobiles from mere transportation means into mobile energy storage units, mobile digital hubs, and service platforms for the integrated application of cutting-edge technologies. Moreover, the innovative and integrated applications of ICVs have spurred new demands for the industrial governance framework. To date, China has rolled out 90 pertinent standards, initiated 62 project plans, and submitted 24 project proposals. In September 2026, the '15th Five-Year Plan for the Development of the Intelligent Connected New Energy Vehicle Industry,' jointly issued by nine departments including MIIT, outlined that by 2030, China's competitive edge across the entire industrial chain of intelligent connected new energy vehicles will be further solidified, propelling the nation into the ranks of the world's foremost automotive powers.
